In recognition of the dreamer
From the story, Being Dreams Forgetting, here rewritten just for you
You live nowhere at all. You do not live anywhere because you cannot imagine a place for you to live. You just live wherever you imagine.
For the longest time, you did nothing but dream. You dreamed many things. At first your dreams felt chaotic, but the dreams gradually became more orderly and more enticing. You were pleased with this, but after a time you got bored just dreaming dream after dream.
Then you tried something different. You dreamed that you forget who you are. The dreaming became very intense, often a nightmare that seemed it would go on forever. You were miserable in these dreams because you had forgotten that you are the dreamer who is just dreaming dream after dream. The nightmares were so real, so terrifying, so lonely, and so desperate.
But you always awoke from your dreams and always remembered instantly that you had simply dreamed it all. Each awakening is ecstatic, beyond the greatest joy you could ever have dreamed. The return to the knowledge of what you truly are brings perfect peace just from knowing that you, the dreamer, are beginningless, endless, and limitless.
But your joy upon awakening seemed short-lived, and the moments of joy were separated by more dreams of more struggle, more misery, and more fear. You only felt truly joyful and peaceful when awakening from your dreams. But you knew that the measure of this joy was complete in every single awakening.
Again, you tried something different. You began to dream many separate dreams together as one great dream within which all of the separate dreams overlapped each other in space, time, and circumstance: one dream of many dreams together. Because every dreamed individual forgets who he really is, each seems to be only one among the many, separated from the others, struggling for survival.
Of course, each separate dream eventually ends and you awaken. In each awakening, you remember again who and what you truly are. Now you are endlessly awakening from countless dreams. In every awakening you remember again that you are the dreamer of every dream, that you have always has been the dreamer of every dream, and that you will always be the dreamer of every dream, far beyond whatever you can ever imagine.
And the dream of life goes on and on with each life a different path to your complete reawakening.
All individual beings experience suffering, only because you forget for a while what you truly are. But all this suffering is reduced, not multiplied, by dividing it among the many. And the suffering of forgetting is made easier by the sharing of it where all lives work together to reduce each other’s misery and pain.
Each awakening is a complete and absolute reawakening to your reality. The joy of this is in no way diminished by the problems of life. It is perfect awareness of your absolute and perfect reality, of being the dreamer of all possible dreams, of being limitless reality itself. Self-aware and self-knowing, you recall every moment of every dream, not as a troubling recollection of miseries but as a wondrous journey home.
Nothing can reduce the peace and joy of remembering the truth of every dream, that in all lives everywhere in every time, you are endlessly awakening to remember that you are the reality of everything.
